About Shawnigan

Shawnigan is a neighbourhood located along the Malahat on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

It is situated up the Trans-Canada Highway from Greater Victoria, which lies to the southeast. Downtown Victoria is located about 45 road kilometres away, around a 48 minute drive.

Shawnigan has become a very popular vacation and summer retreat destination. Generally all of the attention is on the 7 km long lake which is a very popular swimming and boating location for residents and tourists.

The Shawnigan Lake Village is also quite well know and located on the eastern shore of the lake. The village includes general stores, restaurants, cafes and several beaches.

Shawnigan Real Estate 

The greater majority of Shawnigan's geographical area is forested and a part of the Koksilah River Provincial Park. However, at the east end there are a number of highly desirable properties that surround Shawnigan Lake. This including numerous stunning lakefront properties that are on large lots and have their own private docks. The town center is limited in terms of retail options but Mill Bay and Duncan are both within proximity for residents to meet their retail needs.

Outside of the lake area, the Kinsol Trestle is very popular and spans the Koksilah River Valley. With this, the trestle is one of the largest and highest wooden trestle bridges in the world.

Golfers will also love Mill Bay with numerous golf clubs in the area including the Cowichan, Duncan Meadows, Mount Brenton, and Arbutus Ridge Golf Courses.

The area is also a hikers dream with the Trans-Canada Trail Regional Park following the abandoned Canadian National Railway. This path eventually connects with the Galloping Goose Trail and is part of the Trans-Canada Trail that runs from Victoria to Newfoundland.
